Three phones with the AR game: a backed top athlete above the camera image

Telekom Olimpia · 2012 Reference

Telekom Olympics — Champion Collector

The backed top athletes around the T-points

An AR promotion made for Magyar Telekom on behalf of Art-Group: in a game running in the Junaio AR browser, the top athletes backed by Telekom appeared in virtual space around the T-points and could be collected. Anyone who collected all five athletes and registered could receive a gift at the T-point. We also built the web database that administered the results and the gift handovers.

What it does

  • The backed athletes in AR, around the shops
  • A collecting game: five athletes, registration, a gift
  • Web administration for the results and the handovers

ARworks’ role

  • AR application development
  • A web database for the campaign

Worth knowing

It was made on the platform of the time (Junaio); the same mechanic can be built today in browser or camera AR.

Platform

  • AR
  • Junaio (the AR browser of the time)
  • Android · iOS

Can be extended today

  • A present-day camera or browser AR version
  • Collecting with medal and trophy motifs and voucher redemption
The championship cup on the iPad screen, where the cube marker is

Champions’ Cup · 2012 Reference

Champions’ Cup — an AR trophy in your hands

A football Euro promotion: the visitor is the star of the stadium

For a promotion organised by the Totaltrend agency for Immochan (the company that runs the Auchan stores) during the football European Championship we made an AR application, and also provided the hostess activity, the decoration and the technology. Visitors picked up a special cube, and wherever they held it the championship cup appeared in its place on the iPad screen. The branded picture also showed on an LED TV, was printed and e-mailed; a giant stadium print stood behind the participants, so on the photos they really looked like the stars of the pitch. The special feature of the AR was the spatial, 3D marker: the cup was visible from any side of the cube.

What it does

  • A spatial (3D) marker: the cup is visible from every side
  • An AR photo with a stadium backdrop, instant print and e-mail
  • Hostess operation, decoration and technology

ARworks’ role

  • AR application and marker
  • Hostess activity, decoration, technology

Worth knowing

The promotion pictures show participants; the pictures of children were not put on the page.

Platform

  • AR
  • iPad
  • A spatial (3D) marker

The sponsored rally car on the app’s loading screen

Ursus Rally Driver · 2012 Reference

Ursus Rally Driver — the fan behind the wheel

The sponsored driver’s car on the camera

A standalone pseudo-AR application made for Ursus, the biggest Romanian beer brand: on the iPad’s branded live camera image appeared the car of the rally driver backed by Ursus’ alcohol-free beer. By turning and zooming the car and positioning the fan, the photo was ready, in which the fan seemed to sit behind the wheel; it could be e-mailed or shared on Facebook at once. The app was used only in the promotion, so it was made very quickly.

What it does

  • The sponsored driver’s car on the camera
  • A photo by e-mail or instant sharing
  • A fast, cost-effective app made only for the promotion

ARworks’ role

  • Pseudo-AR application development
  • The photo and sharing flow

Platform

  • iPad
  • Pseudo-AR

Can be extended today

  • Your own athlete and sponsor: a kit, a car, equipment on the camera

The underwater 360-degree water polo footage in stereo view

Tesco — water sports · 2017 Reference

Tesco — water sports in four solutions

Water polo from below in VR, an AR winning flyer

We made four solutions for the 15-venue summer in-store promotion of the We Are advertising agency; the theme was water sports in the broad sense. A 360-degree underwater VR recording of the Hungarian water polo team was made (with a camera placed under the goal) and turned into a Samsung Gear VR app; an AR winning flyer doubled as a lottery ticket; a sailing VR game for HTC Vive; and an AR logo hunt. A one-person team of ours toured the country for 15 days and we provided all the devices too.

What it does

  • A water polo match from below, in 360 degrees
  • An AR winning flyer and a logo hunt
  • A nationwide tour: operation and device rental

ARworks’ role

  • Underwater 360-degree footage and VR editing
  • 3D modelling, iPad AR games
  • Operation and device supply for 15 days

Platform

  • Gear VR
  • HTC Vive
  • iPad AR
  • 360 video

Can be extended today

  • A sport’s moments from the fan’s view: VR from the player’s or the referee’s place
  • A prize game with the sponsor’s message
The Fradi eagle with spread wings on top of the rock above the stadium (a square AR picture)

Fradi · Title-celebration AR · 2024 Reference

Title-celebration eagle — AR in the stadium

The club’s emblem on the pitch, on the fans’ phones

For the first time in Hungary, virtual, moving 3D content tied to the home team appeared in a stadium on the fans’ phones with AR. At Ferencváros’ title-celebration fan event, a new “Augmented reality” menu item of the official Fradi app turned the stadium and the pitch into the set: after aligning the Fradi logo to the centre circle, a rock rose from the pitch with the eagle on it, which flew around the stadium and returned with the Championship Trophy placed elsewhere on the pitch, then flew past the trophy with a banner celebrating the stadium’s birthday. The video was published by the Groupama Aréna channel: the Championship Trophy was brought by Groupama Biztosító with the augmented-reality eagle.

What it does

  • The stadium and the pitch are the set — on the phone
  • A new AR menu item in the official club app (Unity + Flutter)
  • A simple, quick setup in the stands, for anyone

ARworks’ role

  • UX/UI: a quick on-site setup
  • 3D modelling and the full animation
  • Unity–Flutter integration with the club’s app team

Platform

  • AR
  • Unity
  • Flutter
  • iOS · Android

Can be extended today

Save the Pros · 2019 Reference

Save the Pros — VR in the goal

The fan stands in the goal of their favourite team

On an idea of the Progressive BEX agency, fans could experience in a VR headset what it is like to stand in the goal of the Veszprém Arena and save the players’ shots. Choosing a Beginner, Junior or Pro level, five throws had to be saved per level; the throws were performed by the Veszprém players, pre-recorded with a 360-degree camera. We solved the save interaction so that if the user touched the given area of the video at the moment the ball passed there, the shot was saved; markers depending on the difficulty level predicted where the ball would arrive. Fans’ chants and sound effects made it credible. The game could be tried before the Telekom Veszprém – HC Meshkov Brest Champions League match, in the break and after the match.

What it does

  • In the favourite team’s goal, in the real hall
  • Three levels, with the pro players’ throws
  • 360-degree video and 3D together, with a record-speed development

ARworks’ role

  • Integrating video and 3D
  • Development at record speed
  • Hardware management on site

Platform

  • HTC Vive
  • Unity
  • 360 video + 3D

Can be extended today

  • Seasonal players, new levels, a leaderboard for the fans
  • A sponsor message in the menu and on the result screen
A tablet at the stand: the big red button must be touched as many times as possible

Swim race on 4 tablets · 2016 Reference

Swim race with four tablets

Four players, one projected pool, off on the whistle

A virtual swim race made for Mobilsofa: with four tablets and a projector you can race in a 2 × 1 metre projected pool. Everyone chooses an avatar from 14 famous swimmers; when all four have chosen, a countdown warns of the start, and the race starts on the whistle. On the tablet a big red button must be touched as often as possible (even with several fingers) so that the avatar swims faster; the distance is two lengths, the fastest finish in 15–20 seconds. After a short award ceremony it can be restarted. The real-time communication of the four tablets with the server PC was a big challenge.

What it does

  • Four players, in real time, in one pool
  • A countdown, a whistle, an award ceremony
  • For event stands: tablets + a projector

ARworks’ role

  • The tablet application and the projected game
  • Real-time communication with the server

Platform

  • iPad · tablets
  • Unity
  • A projected pool (2 × 1 m)

Can be extended today

  • Your own sport and team: a competition game at the sponsor’s stand
  • A leaderboard and a podium at the end of the day
The Olympic cities, their distance and the opening year in the phone’s AR view

Olympic AR Navigator · 2012 Demo

Olympic AR Navigator

Which way and how far is the Olympics?

With our GPS-based AR application made for the 2012 London Olympics, people interested in sport could see in which direction and how many kilometres away the Olympic cities were — or, if they happened to be in England during the Olympics, which Olympic hall, track or venue was where and at what distance.

What it does

  • Olympic cities by direction and distance
  • Venues on the phone’s camera image
  • Our own initiative around the Olympics

ARworks’ role

  • The complete AR application

Worth knowing

Our own demo for the 2012 Olympics; built on the AR browser of the time.

Platform

  • AR · GPS
  • Junaio (the AR browser of the time)
  • Android · iOS

Can be extended today

  • An AR route to the venues of today’s big sporting events
  • In the stadium: seat, buffet, sponsor stand with AR arrows
The VR view: the goalkeeper’s two hands in the virtual hall, the shooter at the seven-metre line

Sports simulator VR · 2023 Reference

Sports simulator in VR — in the goalkeeper’s skin

Motion digitisation, hand tracking, no controllers

A VR sports simulator made for a museum presenting the history of handball: with the Meta Quest 3 on, the visitor became the goalkeeper of a league match and had to save as many seven-metre penalties as possible, at ever harder levels. The whole application is gesture-controlled, without controllers; thanks to hand tracking the player sees their own hands at once. We made the characters, the environment and the graphics in-house and did the motion digitisation too: we turned the movements of two professional handball players into skeleton animation and transferred it to a female and a male 3D athlete avatar. With the logic and the experience, almost any sport or form of movement can be modelled.

What it does

  • As a goalkeeper, with bare hands — no controllers
  • Ever harder levels, shots in random directions
  • The movements of real players, transferred to avatars

ARworks’ role

  • Game development: logic, graphics, scoring, physics
  • Motion digitisation and avatars
  • UX/UI: controller-free control

Platform

  • Meta Quest 3
  • Hand tracking (no controllers)
  • Motion digitisation

Can be extended today

  • Another sport and movement: the same engine, a new avatar
  • Coach feedback: reaction time, save rate
The “Wait for the start!” race simulation: a start grid with fictional characters

Databike Reference

Databike — results and careers in one place

Every start, every result, on one platform

Databike is a data platform of the results, riders and clubs of Hungarian cycling races: one search, a rider’s career (every placing, year by year, on a single profile), rankings and filterable statistics, a race calendar and map, club rankings, series standings race by race; data enters from official result lists after import and manual verification. The “Wait for the start!” race simulation shows the start grid with fictional characters, and finished races can be rated afterwards, anonymously and in aggregate. The pattern can be transferred to any sport.

What it does

  • One search: rider, race, club
  • Careers, rankings, statistics — filterable
  • Verified data: official lists, import, manual checks

ARworks’ role

  • The web platform

Worth knowing

The platform is about cycling races; the data model and the presentation are sport-independent. The site also handles the data of minor riders — which makes data protection especially important.

Platform

  • Web
  • Data platform
  • Clubs · series

Can be extended today

  • Another sport and federation: the same data model, new disciplines
  • A sponsor surface on the rankings and result pages
The list and map of the e-trails on the phone

Digital Wanderer · 2020 Reference

Digital Wanderer — an e-trail for hikers

Badges, playful tasks, an offline hike

An educational-trail application made for the Active and Ecotourism Development Centre: existing and new digital-only trails on a map and in a list, with a downloadable offline hike. On reaching a station a push notification arrives; a quiz, a QR code, matching and an identifier question await there, then video, audio and a 3D model that comes alive in AR. Registered users get badges for completed hikes (by season, national park or region), which can be shared; the content management system works in several languages with access levels.

What it does

  • A map, stations, an offline hike
  • Playful tasks and AR models
  • Badges for completion, with sharing

ARworks’ role

  • UX/UI and the content management system (CMS)
  • Route drawing, offline mode
  • 3D modelling and animation

Platform

  • iOS · Android
  • ARKit · ARCore
  • A content management system

Can be extended today

  • Races and training routes: stations, timing, medals
  • A sponsor station in the badge collecting
ATHLETE ID 10 ID 0472 PERFORMANCE INDEX REACTION231 ms BALANCE ANTICIPATION RHYTHM HISTORY Illustration

VR Sport Talent Lab · 2026 Demo

VR Sport Talent Lab — capability measurement

Reaction, anticipation, balance, attention, rhythm

VR CAP is a WebXR-based demonstrator of a cognitive, attentional, decision and psychomotor measurement system; its sport variant (VR Sport Talent Lab) works with an athlete ID and a Performance Index score. The measurement tasks include reaction time, coincidence timing (anticipation), balance (posturography from the headset data), rhythm, useful field of view, hand–eye coordination and performance under pressure; it runs on the Meta Quest 3, in a desktop browser and on mobile, and treats the results separately per device class.

What it does

  • Tasks: reaction, anticipation, balance, rhythm, visual field
  • Athlete ID, history, capability profile
  • In VR, in the browser and on mobile — evaluated separately per device class

ARworks’ role

  • The complete system: client, server, measurement modules

Worth knowing

It gives a performance indicator, not a validated psychometric opinion: a selection or talent-development decision cannot be based on it alone. A validated system needs a construct definition, a standardised protocol, an adequate sample, reliability testing and a norm group, with expert involvement; for minors a separate data-protection and ethics assessment.

Platform

  • WebXR
  • Meta Quest 3
  • Browser · mobile

Can be extended today

  • A federation or club pilot: a norm group and professional validation
  • Coach feedback from the measurements
The TouchAI touchscreen AI kiosk at an exhibition stand (video thumbnail)

TouchAI Own product

TouchAI — an interactive AI kiosk

Information, route, sponsor offer

A touchscreen-optimised, brandable AI assistant and multimedia information platform: it takes questions in natural language, works from documents supplied by the client, can show text, images and video, is multilingual and extendable. It works live at a trade show; adapted to sport it can be the kiosk of the clubhouse, the stadium or the fan shop.

What it does

  • Information, route, schedule, frequently asked questions
  • From the club’s or the federation’s own material
  • A sponsor offer and a voucher on the kiosk

ARworks’ role

  • An adaptable platform
  • Look and content
  • AI integration

Worth knowing

The sport-specific functions are development directions; the platform itself works live at a trade show.

Platform

  • Touchscreen
  • AI
  • Multilingual

Can be extended today

  • A match-day knowledge base: sectors, gates, buffets, rules
  • A link to the ticketing system and the sponsor campaign
Concept — demo data

01 — Start · reaction Demo

Start-light reaction test

The start-light test shows the most basic athlete measurement as a game: reaction time to a signal. The same runs on a tablet at the stand, in VR in the goal, and on the athlete’s side as a measurement task. The demo works with the browser’s timing.

What it is for
The fan reacts to the start lights going out; the best time goes on the leaderboard.
For whom
Sponsors, clubs, event organisers
What it solves
A game and a contest at the stand instead of a queue; participation can be measured.
What it needs
Leaderboard rules, consent for data handling, an on-site device (tablet or VR).

What it covers

  • Five start lights, a random delay
  • A false start is flagged
  • Best and average time, the latest attempts

Built on our existing work

  • Save the Pros: reaction in VR, in the goal
  • Swim race on tablets: start on the whistle
  • VR Sport Talent Lab: a reaction-time module (demonstrator)

Built on

Worth knowing

The demo is an illustrative game: given browser and device latency it is not a standard measurement. Measuring athletes needs a validated protocol.

Concept — demo data

02 — Sponsor surface Demo

Shirt and bib

The shirt, the bib and the surfaces around them can also serve as AR markers. The demo shows four surfaces — chest, sleeve, back and name, bib — and what the fan would get on their phone. The logos are placeholders, not real brands.

What it is for
The surfaces of the shirt and the bib become AR trigger points: the fan’s phone brings up the athlete’s content.
For whom
Sponsors, clubs, athletes, federations
What it solves
The surface is not only seen but used: a measurable interaction behind the logo.
What it needs
Brand and name-and-likeness rights from the athlete and the club, AR marker design, a print test.

What it covers

  • Four surfaces can be switched
  • Colour and number can be chosen
  • Different AR content for each surface

Built on our existing work

  • Telekom Olympics: a collecting game of backed athletes in AR
  • Champions’ Cup: a spatial marker that works from every side
  • Fradi: AR in the club’s official app

Built on

Worth knowing

An illustrative concept with placeholder logos. Brands, names and likeness may be used only with the rights holder’s consent; for a minor athlete the legal guardian’s consent is also needed.

Concept — demo data

03 — Movement · data Demo

Pitch analyser

Motion digitisation turns into an avatar and data — the pitch analyser builds on that idea. The demo uses a fictional player’s route to show what can be read out: distance, top speed, sprints. The numbers are illustrative values.

What it is for
Tracked movement becomes a route, a heat map and sprints; coach summaries and fan content can be made from it.
For whom
Coaches, clubs, federations, sponsors
What it solves
Movement becomes data and a story: “the sprint of the day”, the heat map, progress can be followed.
What it needs
A data source (tracking system, sensor or video), the players’ consent; for minors a separate assessment.

What it covers

  • Route, heat map and sprint layer
  • Time slider: any moment of the match
  • Summary: distance, top speed, sprints

Built on our existing work

  • Sports simulator VR: real players’ movement transferred to avatars
  • Databike: a results and data platform
  • VR Sport Talent Lab: a capability profile (demonstrator)

Built on

Worth knowing

An illustrative concept with fictional data; the numbers are not measured values. Processing real tracking data needs a data-protection assessment, especially for minor athletes.

Concept — demo data

04 — Fans · leaderboard Demo

Live podium

The podium is the most compact story in sport: who is first, who is second. The demo lets you vote for five fictional candidates; the votes (partly simulated) rearrange the podium and the leaderboard live.

What it is for
A fan vote or quiz leaderboard that can be followed live on a phone, a kiosk and the stadium screen.
For whom
Clubs, sponsors, federations, event organisers
What it solves
The fan does not just watch but takes part; the sponsor’s message sits next to the vote.
What it needs
Voting rules, protection against abuse (one device — one vote), consent-based data collection.

What it covers

  • Five candidates, a live leaderboard and podium
  • A vote on click; simulated votes arrive too
  • The same view on a phone and on a screen

Built on our existing work

  • Databike: results, podiums and rankings on one platform
  • Swim race on tablets: an award ceremony at the end of the race
  • Telekom Olympics: a collecting game and registration

Built on

Worth knowing

An illustrative demo with fictional candidates and partly simulated votes. A real vote needs rules, verification and data-protection consent; the participation of minors must be regulated separately.

  • Fradi: the club’s official app where the AR lives
