Championship Celebration Eagle Animation
The Virtual Fradi Eagle brought Ferencváros's Championship Trophy
About the project
There had already been a few examples of such a solution abroad, but this was the first time in Hungary that Augmented Reality (AR) technology was used in a stadium to display virtual, three-dimensional moving content related to the home team on fans' phones - as if it were really there among the stands. It's probably no surprise - and a stroke of luck for us - that it was Ferencváros, the most popular club and this year's champion for the 6th consecutive time, that saw potential in this and commissioned us to create this special experience, which debuted at the Championship Celebration fan event in May. Part of the festive program was the so-called Championship Celebration Animation, in which, with the help of Augmented Reality (AR), the club's living symbol, Igor the eagle, was replaced for the duration of one match by the Fradi App and this technology. A new menu item called Augmented Reality was added to the already existing, official Fradi mobile app; once launched, it ran a 3D animation on the phone's live camera feed, using the pitch and the stadium as a backdrop. After aligning the Fradi logo with the center circle, a rock formation rose out of the pitch with the Fradi eagle on top, which flew around the stadium and returned with the championship trophy placed at another point on the pitch. The virtual Igor then made another loop, this time flying past the trophy with a banner celebrating the birthday of Groupama Arena. During the project, we developed a new feature for the official fan mobile app, working together with the team that manages the app.
