About the project

We created our latest development, a VR sports simulator, for a museum showcasing the history of handball! In virtual reality, users could step into the shoes of a handball goalkeeper during a championship match. We designed the application so that visitors could use it on their own, without any special assistance—they simply had to put on the newly released Meta Quest 3 headset and follow the on-screen instructions. The entire application was gesture-controlled, so no separate controllers were needed; players could touch menu items with their bare hands. Hand-tracking technology is now so precise that players can instantly see their own hands and every movement, allowing them to intuitively press buttons, navigate, and of course block the ball. The player's, or rather the goalkeeper's, task was to block as many 7-meter penalty shots as possible, at increasingly difficult levels, blocking ever trickier and stronger shots. The shots came from random directions and with varying strength, requiring players to use all their skill and quick reflexes to score as many points as possible. A special highlight of the project is that we not only created the character selection, gameplay, environment, and graphic elements in-house, but also handled the motion capture ourselves. We invited two professional handball players to perform precise movements, which we converted into skeletal animation, and after fine-tuning, applied to 3D-modeled female and male athlete avatars. By further developing this logic and experience, we are able to model almost any sport or type of movement. This means we can create anything from simple entertainment games to complex feedback-driven sports simulations or even military simulations.
