SWIM RACE WITH 4 TABLETS
About the project
Commissioned by Mobilsofa, we created a virtual swim race application where up to 4 tablets and a projector let players compete in a virtual pool. On the table set up at the booth, there is a projected pool measuring 2 m x 1 m, surrounded by 4 installed tablets – one swimmer expected per tablet. Players choose an Avatar from 14 famous swimmers. Once all four players have selected their Avatar, a countdown warns of the upcoming race start. At that point, every swimmer is visible in the pool, and the race begins at the starting signal. A large red button then appears on the tablet's screen, which the player must tap as many times as possible within a set time – even with multiple fingers – to make their swimmer avatar swim as fast as possible. The race distance is 2 lengths, completed by the fastest players in 15-20 seconds. At the end of the race, after a brief results announcement, the game can be restarted. The idle screen on the tablet displays an animated logo, while a 2-minute video plays on the projected table surface. A major challenge for the ARworks team was the real-time communication between the 4 tablets and the server PC, a requirement that hadn't come up in our previous projects.
