The situation. For a new colleague, the first day means an overload of information, and for the receiving team, lost work time. Safety training is often delivered as a lecture, right before work begins.
The idea. The new employee walks through the site in a headset before actually entering it: learning the routes, how to use protective equipment, restricted zones, and emergency procedures. The system records what they completed along the way.
What it requires. A floor plan or 3D survey of the site, the safety policy, and a decision on whether the training supplements or replaces the current one — the latter also requires updating the training documentation.
When it pays off. In cases of high staff turnover, multi-shift facilities, or where site tours are an organizational burden on their own. An added benefit is that training can be completed even while the production line is running.
