Interactive display of large amounts of data using virtual reality on HTC Vive glasses
About the project
Virtual Reality (VR) can provide real, tangible added value to its users in many areas. One of these is Big Data visualization, where insights derived from huge amounts of data need to be presented in a digestible, processable way. VR can help a lot with this, since it has a few characteristics that make it especially suitable for this purpose – even beyond the trivial 360-degree view: Exclusion of the outside world VR glasses block out all external, usually distracting stimuli and attention-diverting impulses, making it much easier to focus on the content. Interactivity With the help of the Vive headset's two separate controllers, even very complex interactions can be carried out easily and quickly – whether it's selecting, filtering, parameterizing, zooming, or moving data. Animation Perhaps the most promising possibility is that instead of static, motionless data, animated data series can be used to illustrate change through motion and growth – making it easier, for example, to recognize trends and patterns. 3D display 3D is inherent to VR, so the displayed content doesn't just simply surround the user, but becomes explorable – further aiding the display of large amounts of information. Of course, the above advantages only become truly understandable when someone personally tries out the device and the VR space within it. Now that the basic concept is complete, we are looking for a partner or client with whom we can jointly adapt our solution to a real data stream.
