MyRoyalCorgi – Virtual Dog Training iPhone Game
About the project
ARworks developed a simple dog-training game using Augmented Reality technology to mark the 60th anniversary of the English Queen's reign. In the game, which runs on iPhone and iPad, the Queen's favorite pet, a 3-dimensional Corgi puppy who even gets along fine with cats, appears right in front of us, on the table or on the floor. We need to train him the usual way, with petting and rewards, to perform tasks of varying difficulty. If we're skilled enough, he'll even salute in our living room or right in the palm of our hand, in honor of the Queen and ourselves. Of course, as is typical with Augmented Reality technology, the puppy appears when the smartphone's camera is pointed at a special image, the marker. In this case, staying true to the occasion, the amateur dog trainer only needs a 5, 10, or 20 pound banknote — and it's worth collecting all of them, since our virtual pet will learn a different trick on each one. We created this simple game to take advantage of the world's attention on the event, to showcase and popularize AR technology, and to get those who are open to it thinking about what this technology will be capable of as devices continue to advance. Augmented Reality is a special technology, available mainly on smartphones, which allows special video, photo, or even — as in this case — animated 3D content to appear on the phone's live camera feed. ARworks is one of the world's leading developers of Augmented Reality applications, creating marketing, educational, commercial, and entertainment AR content for its clients.
