About the project

This was perhaps the world's first virtual fine art exhibition built with ARKit, made possible by the newly launched Dobossy Auction House's openness to innovation. For the preview event ahead of the auction held in mid-December, we built an augmented reality solution that let visitors view the auctioned artworks on the walls of a life-size gallery appearing at 16 iconic, world-famous locations as well as 6 domestic venues. Whether it was Times Square in New York, Trafalgar Square in London, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, or the square in front of the Sydney Opera House, among many other locations, the life-size Dobossy Gallery appeared everywhere with the artworks up for auction. As users approached the images, they grew larger – just as they would in reality – and tapping on them revealed the necessary information: artist, title, size, catalog number, and starting price. The app is available on iOS 11 and requires at least an iPhone 6S.
