About the project

The official ELI website was rebuilt and a mobile application including Augmented Reality elements was developed by Expedient and ARworks Kft. Both are managed by ELI's administrators through a CMS system we also built, allowing users to browse on whichever device is most convenient for them. What is ELI? The Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI) project is an integral part of the planned and under-construction generation of major European research infrastructures, coordinated by the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI). ELI is the world's first facility to enable the study of light-matter interaction at intensities greater than ever before, even in the so-called ultra-relativistic regime. The website Development of the ELI website began in October 2017. Besides a wide range of ELI-related information, visitors to the website can register at the visitor center, browse job openings, or find information about upcoming workshops and conferences. Current and past procurements, tenders, and public research results are also available on the site. Mobile optimized. The major advantage of responsive web development is that it's practically independent of the visitor's device. Whether on a computer, tablet, or phone, the page layout always adapts as comfortably as possible. The ELI website was developed this way as well. Mobile app Alongside the website, an ELI mobile app was also created, which links to individual pages of the website as well as the complete website itself, allowing convenient browsing of the site within the app. Besides the online interface, two important offline functions were also included in the mobile app. One is general information about ELI, and the other is an Augmented Reality menu item. This augmented reality feature allows you to view the complete 3D model of the building, which you can even walk around. Ideally, this requires a printed marker, which can be obtained for free from the app. If a marker is not available, a markerless view is also available, showing the same 3D model. Optimal AR display requires a more powerful phone or tablet. CMS Content upload and management is handled through the Content Management System (CMS). Here, editors and administrators can manage news, publications, workshops, newsletters, etc. with separate permission levels, which then immediately appear on the website available to users.
