Presentation of the newly introduced digital control center on Oculus Rift
About the project
We created a VR headset application for the Disaster Management Directorate, demonstrating how much safer navigation on the Danube has become thanks to the sensors and monitoring system deployed by the Directorate. Navigation safety is very difficult to visualize, as it essentially involves invisible processes in the form of automatic sensors and radio communication. That's why we designed a demo running on an Oculus Rift VR headset, presenting the situation itself. The VR experience served a dual purpose: first, as a complement to the company presentation, the presenter wore the headset to show the completed developments in virtual space while the audience watched in real time on a projector. Later, using the same system at exhibitions, visitors could put on the headset themselves and view a condensed version of the demo. The experience, accompanied by music and equipped with information panels, was divided into two parts: in the first part, viewers were flown over Hungary along the line of the Danube, showcasing the 215 newly installed sensors across 71 locations. In the second part, we saw a simulation of a disaster situation from multiple camera angles, told as a story, in which two ships approach each other, the monitoring system issues an automatic alert due to the proximity, and the dispatch center gives the appropriate instructions, as a result of which the ships avoid collision. During the guided demonstration, users receive information about how river navigation control works while experiencing the hazardous situations themselves. The project included full-scale, comprehensive modeling of Budapest with houses, parks, and trees, with the inner city worked out in greater detail, which can also serve as the basis for our future projects.
